Report on CTV News About Cameras in Long Term Care Homes

by New Jersey Long Term Care Insurance on January 26, 2012

Kyle Christie talks to a lady who put a camera in her mother's room at Longworth Long Term Care in London Ontario. Her mother died 3 weeks after a fall she captured on video. The debate continues. Should cameras be allowed. The only people who seem to say NO are the people who work in the nursing homes.

As a Nursing student, I truly believe that Cameras should be perfectly legal so long as they are for the power of attorney only. They will keep us all accountable, and they will remind us all that we are dealing with somebody’s FAMILY and that we should not do anything that we WOULDN’T WANT CAUGHT ON CAMERA.

Down in Cambridge Mayor Craig says he wants $3,000 from any aging parent that wants to live indpendently in the home of an adult child, in something as simple as a basement apartment or Granny suite. It isn’t nice to extort seniors who want to spend their remaining years living with family. Cambridge is a hostile city for seniors to live in. Adult children who do provide such accommodatin for their elderly parents even have there property taxes increased.
Cambridge sucks for seniors.

I think it is great that you are advocating for residents rights. Too many people don’t fully understand what goes on when people aren’t watching the way their loved ones are cared for.
